Riding high on the success of
"Project X," star Jonathan Daniel Brown is in negotiations to topline
the true crime tale "Kid Cannabis," which John Stockwell ("Blue Crush")
will direct from his own script.
Based on Mark Binelli's 2005 article in Rolling Stone, story follows an impoverished high school drop-out who finds himself managing a multi-million-dollar marijuana smuggling operation across the Idaho-Canada border.
Brown is making a deal to play Idaho native Nate Norman, who enlisted a crew of his pals to become an elite drug-running team that imported high-quality pot from Canada. As the stakes grow higher, so do the risks, and it's not long before the Feds come snooping around and his dream scheme turns into a nightmare.
Gordon Bijelonic, Mia Chang, Bic Tran and Datari Turner will produce the indie pic, which is skedded to start production in July in Canada.
ICM-repped Stockwell recently wrapped the Osama bin Laden pic "Code Name: Geronimo," which stars Cam Gigandet and Anson Mount as Navy SEALs.
Brown, who earned big laughs as a lead in his first feature "Project X," signed with CAA shortly after the low-budget party pic grossed more than 21 million its opening weekend. Teen comedy has earned nearly $90 million worldwide.
In addition to CAA, Brown continues to be repped by Black Box Management.
