Brent Miles Taylor, 50, is charged with trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, conspiracy and other offences —15 counts in total.

The drugs allegedly include cocaine, marijuana, cannabis resin and the prescription painkiller hydromorphone (Dilaudid).

It's alleged that Taylor conspired with others to get the drugs into the jail between January, 2007, and February, 2010.
More recently Taylor is alleged to have tried to contact a witness and for that he's also been charged with obstruction of justice.

The trial before a Queen's Bench judge and jury of 12 is expected to take two weeks.

Following jury selection on Monday, the judge gave jurors the day off Tuesday and conducted a voir dire — a trial within a trial to determine the admissibility of evidence.

It's expected the jury will return to the courtroom on Wednesday.
